Welcome to the Buckeye Showdown!
July 6, 7 and 8, 2012
We are proud to announce that on Thursday, July 5
there will be an administered National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) college recruiting camp at Lou Berliner Park, the day before our tournament. This will be one of only 8 camps of its type in the country.
We have been involved in fastpitch softball for 20 years and we believe these camps are the best college exposure camps in the country. Please go to www.nfca.org for more details and to sign up to
participate. You may sign up even
if you are not playing in the Buckeye Showdown.
As with all Fastpitch Showdowns, pool play games will be 90 minutes long which gives you a better chance to get in a full game. And with 5 games minimum at that length for each team, you know that, win or lose, your girls will enjoy plenty of softball and college coach exposure and make your weekend worthwhile. We feel the Buckeye Showdown presents the best chance in the Midwest for your team to be exposed to college coaches in a tournament format. Lou Berliner Park offers the college coaches a chance to see multiple players and teams in one location without having to go from complex to complex. Berliner Park also has homerun fences on all 31 fields which will make
it a more realistic and more enjoyable tournament for the girls. The pitching distance at the 14 and under division for this
tournament will be 43 feet.

- Buckeye Showdown Format - In previous years we have had all
teams play 4 pool games. Each team will then be seeded in bracket
play depending on their record. In age groups with 8 or more teams, the top half of each pool
will go in to a Platinum bracket and will play a single elimination
tournament. The lower half of each pool will go into a separate Gold
division bracket and play a separate single elimination tournament. These
brackets will NOT meet. The first and second place teams in each bracket will receive championship medals. All teams will be able to bat their entire line-up and freely substitute in the field. These rules and format are used to give the teams the opportunity to give the maximum number of players a chance for exposure to the college coaches.
- This year we are in contact with College Coaches to hear their feedback on the format they would prefer. All teams will definitely be guaranteed 5 games and the format will probably stay the same as last year, however it could be modified slightly based on their response.
- Buckeye Showdown Entry Form - Fastpitch Showdowns does not accept entry into any
tournament without a completed entry form and at least a $100 deposit. We do accept credit cards for
payment. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Buckeye Showdown Recruiting Information Sheet -- ATTENTION ALL 16U and 18U Coaches - At the request of College Coaches, we are compiling a tournament player database for all of the College Coaches so they can better recruit your players. A requirement for entry in this tournament is that this sheet MUST be filled out by all 16U and 18U teams and emailed back to recruitingforms@fastpitchshowdowns.com by June 15th. There is no cost to you and this is the best way for the College Coaches to be aware of your team and who is on it. This form will be available for download by February 1st. We will also post sample forms and instructions to make this process more simple in 2012.
- Buckeye Showdown Rules - TBD
- CaptainU is a
service designed to help players and teams maximize their exposure to college
coaches. Participating with CaptainU is not a requirement of the
tournament, but those that choose to will be included in the player profile
book they will create and send to college coaches. They also offer
some premium paid features that you have the choice to opt-into if you are
looking for additional help through the recruiting process. But no one is
under any obligation to do so and you have the choice to stick with the free
tools for as long as you like.
- Directions to the fields - Lou Berliner Park, 325 Greenlawn Ave, Columbus OH 43223
- We
are proud to host the tournament at the Lou Berliner Park in Columbus,
Ohio. The complex is the largest in the United States, with 31 fields
all in one location. You do not have to park out in front and walk to
the fields as the complex has adequate parking close to each field!!
Berliner Park and the City of Columbus Parks and Recreation Department
is proud of their reputation in the fastpitch community and continues to
make improvements. Among other things, they are constructing an
additional permanent concession and restroom
facility and addiing lights to 2 more fields. Based on the success of
the installation of 4 turf fields in 2011, the most impressive
improvement for the 2012 season is the
installation of 4 additional state-of-the-art infield turf (called FieldTurf
- the same surface that has been installed at the University of
Louisville) which will make a total of 8 turf fields! This will make
more turf fields than any single location in the United States. This
will allow even more teams to play immediately after rain stops. It is
the next step in their long range plan of continuous improvements to the
Park.
- Local Resources
- Teams Signed Up as of 2/1/12
- If,
as in every previous year, the tournament sells out, all schedules and
pools will be emailed to the coaches at least 30 days before the
tournament. If you believe you are registered for the tournament and
you have not received the schedule by then, please let us know.
